One winter evening a couple of years ago, Chris Kettlewell invited Chris Bezant and Bob Stevenson to a party at his house. On the evening of that party, hydro power was lost in the downtown west end of Toronto for the better part of two days. As there was no way to play CDs or records, musicians had to make the music themselves. In this magical candlelit environment, Safety In Numbers was born. Safety In Numbers begins with the inspiration of Django Reinhardt, taking his style as the starting point for the exploration of gypsy jazz, American standards and more contemporary approaches to jazz improvisation. Safety In Numbers performs Sundays from 6-9 PM at The Painted Lady, located at Ossington and Dundas in Toronto.
