Lyla Rye

Lyla Rye is an installation artist, based in Toronto, who began her studies in architecture. She then went on to receive a BFA from York University, and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work has been exhibited across Canada including at the Power Plant, Toronto; the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Halifax; the Esplanade Gallery, Medicine Hat; the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Kingston; the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Lethbridge, the Confederation Centre of the Arts, Charlottetown and the Textile Museum of Canada, Toronto. Her international exhibitions include shows in San Francisco, New York, Adelaide, Paris, and Berlin. She has work in the collections of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, York University, Cadillac Fairview Corporation, The Tom Thomson Art Gallery and Robert McLaughlin Gallery. She recently created a permanent installation as part of Harbourfront’s Art Gallery’s Artist Garden Series in Toronto. She is a sessional faculty member teaching sculpture and video at Sheridan College and UTM’s Art & Art History Program, Ontario College of Art and Design and is the co-ordinator of the Independent Studio Program and at the Toronto School of Art. Students from all three of these schools assisted Lyla in the making of her piece.
