Henry Kucharzyk

Henry Kucharzyk been called “one of the explorers of Canadian music” (Toronto Star) and his creations span diverse musical forms and media from symphonies, ballets, operas and oratorios to mixed media, electronica, film and television and Installation art. His commissions include works for the Toronto Symphony, Nexus, Toronto Dance Theatre, Evergreen Club Gamelan, Piano Circus (UK), Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, the Esprit Orchestra , Studio Grame (France), the National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
He has worked as a pianist and keyboard player, also a broadcaster for the CBC, and a thereminist, record producer, educator, and conductor. In addition he created the ARTIFACT MUSIC record label which has been called “a veritable fount of new music” by the Village Voice and has produced 40 discs.

As a performer he has had a long association with the ARRAYMUSIC ensemble and also with PHH!K the ground-breaking electro-acoustic duo that he formed with Peter Hannan to explore non-tactile controllers.
His most recent projects include a Wind Symphony for the University of Calgary and a collaboration with the legendary Toronto band “Cowboy Junkies” creating orchestral counterpoints to their creations. These new works have been performed by the Louisville Symphony and the Boston Pops .
