Debbie Adams was born in Burnaby, British Columbia. She currently lives and works in Toronto. She graduated with honours and was awarded the Graphic Design Department medal from OCA in 1983. She established the design practise, Adams + Associates Design Consultants Inc. in 1988, with a focus on design for visual culture and the non-profit sector. She taught at Sheridan College from 1988 to 1993 and joined the Communication and Design faculty at the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) in 1994. She was granted tenure as a full professor in 2002. Her teaching in Graphic Design includes experimental Typography and 4th Year Thesis. Her work has been included in exhibitions in Lyon, France and Toronto, published in numerous books and periodicals and recognized with design awards. She has been an elected member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) since 1999, and is a professional member of the Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario (RGD) and the Society of Environmental Graphic Designers (SEGD). She has designed 33 postage stamps for Canada Post. Her personal work incorporates photography, typography and collecting and she plays the fiddle.
