Colette Laliberté & Sandra Rechico

Sandra Rechico and Colette Laliberté’s joint activities have taken many turns over the years and unfolded in numerous directions.

The first manifestation of this took place at the Art Gallery of Peterborough where they were invited to exhibit together and both created wall works on site. During the installation, ideas bounced back and forth and the dialogue that occurred during those 10 days cemented their friendship.

A number of weeks later they met again, this time, to exchange teaching strategies, to brainstorm assignments and to find ways to engage students in the complexity of art language –from drawing a line on a sheet of paper to site intervention.

Building on 20 years of friendship (which has so far included shared exhibitions, curricular development and team-teaching), they seized upon this opportunity to collaborate on a site-specific intervention at the decommissioned Shaw Street School. This is an opportunity for them to combine their unflagging commitment to drawing, and their long experience as art educators and artists.
